| | | Ireland Newfoundland "Festival of the Sea"
| |
| | Newfoundland and Labrador Minister for Finance, the Hon. Loyola Sullivan, MHA, will lead a delegation of over 20 fishermen, artists and community development workers to the Waterford and Wexford coasts to take part in the Ireland Newfoundland Festival of the Sea which opens in Dunmore East on May 27. The 10-day Festival celebrates the links between Ireland's south east and Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula. The Ireland - Newfoundland Festival of the Sea links the fishing communities on either side of the Estuary with their counterparts of the Cape Shore and the Irish Loop in an area south of the capital St Johns known as the southern Avalon Peninsula. While celebrating the historical and contemporary links the Festival will also serve as a platform for local cultural and community development. This is very much reflected in the programme of over 50 events to be held in Dunmore East, Cheekpoint, Passage, Duncannon, Fethard on Sea, and Campile. The programme includes concerts, sea shanties, art exhibitions, river celebrations, river walks and boat trips, a sea food demonstration and tasting. The full programme is available on the Festival website at http://www.newfoundlandireland.com | | | |
