| | | | | Title | An Economic Analysis of the Bycatch of Prohibited Species: The Yellowfin Sole Fishery in Bering Sea Area I
( Document )
| | Author(s) / Editor(s) | Gorham, A.H.; Lin, B.H.; Lin, T.Y.; Richards, H.S. | | Description | &The bycatch of halibut, salmon and crab in the groundfish fisheries has become an important management issue facing the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, especially when joint venture operations have increased their share of total groundfish catch. This research investigates the bycatch of king crab of the yellowfin sole fishery in the Bering Sea area I. Catch/effort relationships for the directed yellowfin sloe fishery were estimated first and then used to calculate the economic benefits of transferring effort among areas of different bycatch rates of kind crab. Nonlinear programming models were constructed to investigate the economic consequences of implementing selected management options. | | Keywords | &FISHERIES MANAGEMENT | | Geography Keywords | BEARING SEA | | Content Language(s) | English | |
