The Association conducts research into all aspects of freshwater science and technology, provides a Membership organisation and independent scientific opinion. The FBA provides scientific continuity - it was founded in 1929 and has a long history of achievements in freshwater science. This includes the publication of more than 2000 papers in recognised scientific journals and a series of independent publications (including identification keys for freshwater taxa, analytical methods, etc.). The FBA possesses one of the finest freshwater libraries in the world (currently a partner in the EU UNIverse project), and provides essential advisory services to its members. Many national and international awards and honours have been bestowed upon the Association and its senior staff in recognition of the quality and importance of their scientific achievements.
