| | Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) is Germany's promotional bank for the domestic economy and the official development bank for countries in transition and developing countries. The bank is owned by the German federation and the federal states (Länder). Under the Financial Cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and developing countries KfW, on behalf of the German government, finances investments and project-related consultancy services to expand social, economic and industrial infrastructure and in the protection of the environment and natural resources. KfW appraises the eligibility of projects for financing according to development-policy criteria, assists the partner countries in implementing them, and evaluates their success after they are completed.
