oneFish Help: FIPIS

Fisheries Project Information System (FIPIS)

One of the primary objectives in the development of oneFish was to regenerate the FAO Fisheries Project Information System (FIPIS). FIPIS was a DOS based information system created and maintained by the FAO Fisheries Department, and included information on fishery projects funded by the major Donor Agencies. All of the original c.5500 FIPIS project records have been imported into oneFish.

Whilst FIPIS provided a substantial amount of core project data, the original FIPIS database ceased to be updated in 1995 and therefore some of the project records contain a limited amount of information. Following the import of FIPIS into oneFish, respective donor organizations were asked to update their project data in oneFish.

Recently, a Projects Archive has been created to hold all projects with start dates up to and including 31 December 1990, therefore many of the original FIPIS project records are now in this archive.

Latterly, an arrangement has been established with AiDA - Accessible Information on Development Activities - a component of the Development Gateway of the World Bank, to capture fishery project records automatically, however smaller donors, and those not yet contributing project data to AiDA are requested to continue adding their fishery projects data directly to their donor topic in oneFish.

To view post-1990 projects by Donor, go to the Donors/Projects Topic. Use the Advanced Search to retrieve information about newly added projects, or to search for sets of project records on specific subjects. Via the Advanced Search, project records can be displayed on the screen or exported in csv format. The export limit is set at 160 records. If you wish to export a larger number of records, please contact the Chief Editor: onefish@fao.org
