About Knowledge and Headlines
- A oneFish Knowledge Object (KO) is any type of document, file or online resource relevant to fisheries and aquatic research and development that can be referenced or linked or uploaded into oneFish.
- A oneFish Knowledge Object could be an e-book, e-document, project record, website, database, contact, institution, etc. etc. or purely a reference to a traditional resource obtainable in a library or only available from the publisher or originator.
- A oneFish Headline or Media Object (HO) can be a news article, any type of event, a poll on an issue of current topical interest, or a job advertisement. News Articles, Event Information and Job Adverts can either be created in oneFish, or referenced and linked to, e.g. to a Conference website. News, Events and Jobs all have an expiry date after which they are deleted from the system. Polls are created in oneFish and retained in the system.

Adding Knowledge or Headlines
To
submit knowledge to oneFish you must be a registered
member of
oneFish
- Registered
Members can suggest/submit new knowledge to appear in oneFish.
- After
login, use search or browse to find a topic you would like to submit
your knowledge object to. If you are not sure or cannot find a topic
to suggest your knowledge object to, you may either suggest
a new topic or submit the knowledge object to the oneFish Database topic: 80723
and the Chief Editor will review your submission.
-
In the bottom section of the topic screen you will see the +suggest
link next to a drop down list of add forms. Click on the type of
knowledge you would like to suggest, e.g. book, document, news,
event, and it will move to the top of the list, then click on the
+suggest link and the appropriate form will appear.
- Following
the on-screen examples, and the guidelines in the help (?) links,
enter the information (metadata) requested in the fields provided.
- Enter
keywords specific to the subject of your knowledge or headline object
using the recommended subject specific thesauri which can be accessed
through the adjacent help links. Use the AGROVOC
thesaurus for geographic, species and broad subject terms,
and the ASFA thesaurus or Fish Technology Keyword List for more specific subject terms.
- Click
on Submit. You will be notified within a few days, via your oneFish Inbox,
whether your knowledge object has been accepted by the topic editor.

Linking
to Topics
- When
you suggest a knowledge or headline object, you can also suggest
linking it to other topics in oneFish using the Relate KO to
Topics box near the bottom of the suggestion form.
-
Click
on the All Topics link in the left hand side bar of the
suggestion form (this will open up the Topic Directory in a new
smaller screen), then cut and paste the required topic number(s)
only into the relevant box in the suggest form, separating each
topic number with either a comma (,) or a semi-colon (;). When
the Topic Directory opens it will go to the topic you are in.
You can move up and down the current worldview or go to other
worldviews to select topic numbers.
-
Click
on submit and you will be notified within a few days through your oneFish
Inbox if your knowledge has been accepted.
- When
your knowledge has been accepted by the first Topic Editor, the item is then automatically linked to all other topics it was submitted to and a posting will appear in the Recent Activity screens of the Editors of those other topics, at which point they can decide whether to accept the link, remove it or request that it is removed.
