Volunteer today and join in the development of oneFish

As a oneFish topic editor you will be:
  • Actively involved in the development and management of oneFish.
  • Play a key role in promoting and guiding the topic you edit. 
  • The first to see the knowledge and information submitted to you.
  • Linking in to a global network of producers and users of fisheries and aquatic information. 
  • Raising your profile in the global research community by displaying your biodata (and photo) online.
Who can become a oneFish Topic Editor?
  • Any registered member of oneFish who can demonstrate a proven record of interest, ability and experience in the topic for which they are volunteering, and
  • Who can allocate a short amount of time, preferably on a weekly basis, to review and upload into oneFish the knowledge and information submitted to their oneFish topic Inbox
What does a oneFish Topic Editor do?
  • You will briefly assess the quality, value and relevance of knowledge objects and other items which are submitted to your oneFish topic Inbox, and either accept or reject them, or forward then to a more appropriate topic.
  • You can subsequently edit, move or de-link knowledge objects within your topic area. 
  • You can suggest additional links between knowledge objects within your topic and other topics.
  • You can initiate and moderate discussions with oneFish contributors, through oneFish Discussions or KO Comments.
  • You can add value to some knowledge objects within your topic area by marking them `Editor's Choice'. 
  • You can add or accept news items, events and jobs, and accept or initiate polls on issues relevant to your topic.  

What next

  • Register to become a member of oneFish.
  • When you have received your password, send an email to the Chief Editor (onefish@fao.org) listing the name(s) of any existing topics you would like to volunteer to edit or jointly edit.
  • Briefly describe your experience in the topic(s) and, if accepted, you will be contacted and arrangements made for you to become the topic editor.
  • If you want to suggest a new topic for oneFish that you also wish to volunteer to edit:
    • Use search or browse to find an appropriate topic to add your new subtopic to.
    • Click on +suggest sub-Topic to go to the suggest a topic form.
    • Following the on-screen examples and help?, complete the required and optional fields.
    • Enter keywords specific to the subject of your topic using the recommended subject specific thesauri which can be accessed either through the adjacent help links. Use the AGROVOC thesaurus for geographic, species and broad subject terms, and the ASFA thesaurus or Fish Technology Keyword List for more specific subject terms.
    • Click on Submit. You will be notified in a few days, via your Inbox, whether your suggested new topic has been accepted.
  • After your suggested topic has been accepted you can then suggest linking it or relating it to other oneFish topics by contacting the relevant topic editor(s) or the chief editor.
