Q: What is oneFish?
A: An Internet portal for fisheries and aquatic research developed by SIFAR and FAO. 

Q: What is SIFAR?
A: The Support unit for International Fisheries and Aquatic Research, a Project which operated in partnership with the FAO Fisheries Department in Rome. The SIFAR Project Closed in July 2004.

Q: What is FAO?
A: The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.

Q: What is an Internet portal?
A: A gateway on the Internet which provides access to hierarchically organised groups of information.

Q: What is a Topic?
A: A subject category which comprises a grouping of knowledge within a specific subject area.

Q: What does a Topic Editor do?
A: Assist in the administration of topics by editing, adding and ranking the knowledge objects submitted to them, generating discussions and initiating polls.

Q: Who will be considered as a oneFish Topic Editor?
A: Any registered member of oneFish.

Q: What is a oneFish Virtual Office?
A: An Institutional Topic with various sub-topics relating to the activities of an organisation, institution or project.

Q: How can I adopt a Topic?
A: You volunteer to become a Topic Editor.

Q: What is a Worldview?
A: A top-level oneFish Topic.

Q: What is a KO?
A: KO stands for Knowledge Object.

Q: What is a Knowledge Object?
A::A Knowledge Object is any piece of information or data in any format that can be uploaded to the oneFish Community Directory Server (CDS); entered into the oneFish CDS via fill-in forms, e.g. documents, multimedia, contacts; or linked to the oneFish CDS, e.g. websites. Knowledge Objects can only be submitted by Registered Members.

Q: What is the Community Directory Server (CDS)?
A: The CDS is the underlying software that provides the platform for the oneFish Community Directory. It can be customised to provide the platform for any other subject, groups of subjects or specialised applications.

Q: How do I add Knowledge Objects?
A: Use Search or Browse to locate the topic that you are interested in, select the type of Knowledge Object you wish to add from the drop down list of Add Forms, then click on the +suggest button and follow the instructions on the form that appears.
Only registered members of oneFish can suggest knowledge objects, and you must be logged in.

Q: What is the difference between the Browser Back button and the oneFish Previous (Cancel) button?
A: During the add/edit process you should use the Previous (Cancel) button to return to previous screens, rather than the Browser Back button. Use of the Browser Back button during this process may result in duplication of the item you are adding.

Q: What are Suspect URLs?
A: Periodically, a program is run against the system to check that all of the URLs (web addresses) in the system are valid. Any URLs that do not connect during the running of this program will be highlighted in the Inbox of the Topic Editor(s) to which the relevant knowledge object is linked.

Q: What is a `Favourite Location'?
A:
Your Favourite Location is the screen you choose to go directly to when you login. You can set/change your Favourite Location in the Preferences screen in your My oneFish area.
