Search Options
- All
Topics (excluding archives) - searches in all current topics excluding
the archive topics.
- All
Topics + Archives - searches in all current topics and archive topics.
- Current
Topic + Subtopics - searches in the topic you are currently in, plus
all of its subtopics, but NOT archives.
- Archives
- searches in archive topics only.

Search
Parameters
- All
of the search options above work on all fields in all types of knowledge
objects and topics.
- Logical/Boolean
operators are automatically inserted (AND, OR, NOT).
- Logical/Boolean
operators are case sensitive and when added, must be in UPPERCASE.
- Search
terms are NOT case sensitive.
- Lucene
supports single and multiple character wildcard searches. To perform
a single character wildcard search use the "?" symbol. To perform a
multiple character wildcard search use the "*" symbol.
- The
single character wildcard search looks for terms that match that
with the single character replaced. For example, to search for "text"
or "test" you can use the search: te?t.
- Multiple
character wildcard searches looks for 0 or more characters. For
example, to search for test, tests or tester, you can use the search:
test* You can also use the wildcard searches in the middle of a
term. te*t
- Note:
You cannot use a * or ? symbol as the first character of a search.
- Clicking
on a word or phrase that has a magnifying glass
next to it will initiate a search the same field in every record.

Advanced Search
The
Advanced Search screen allows you to search in specific fields within
a specific Knowledge Object type (e.g. documents), so the first thing
you have to do is to choose the KO type you wish to search on by clicking
on the relevant KO tab.
The advanced
search screen is divided into two sections:

Only
change the default parameters in these two fields if you want
to search for knowledge objects added since a certain date of
during a specific time span, e.g.:
If
you select 01 Jan 2000 in the first drop down list, and leave
the second box blank, the system will search for all KOs added
on or after 1 January 2000.
If
you select 01 Jan 1990 in the first drop down list, and 01 Jan
1995 in the second drop down list, the system will search for
all KOs added between 1 January 1990 and 1 January 1995.

Only
change the default parameters in these two fields if you want
to search for knowledge objects changed/updated since a certain
date of during a specific time span, e.g.:
If
you select 01 Jan 2000 in the first drop down list, and leave
the second box blank, the system will search for all KOs changed/updated

If
you select 01 Jan 1990 in the first drop down list, and 01 Jan
1995 in the second drop down list, the system will search for
all KOs changed/updated between 1 January 1990 and 1 January
1995.

Expression |
Use
this field to search for a specific keyword term or phrase in any field in the KO type chosen. Alternatively use this field to search
in a specific field within this KO type not listed in the bottom
section of the advanced search screen. |
Bottom
Section:
The
fields available in the bottom section of the Advanced
Search vary according to the type of KO you have chosen to search. Simply enter the search term, using quotation marks for phrases, e.g. "salmon roe".
CSV
Output Option:
- If
you want to export search results/references, you should choose the
CSV (comma delimited) option from the drop-down list of output types.
- When
the system has finished searching you will be prompted to either:
Open this file from its current location, or: Save this
file to disk. If you save the file to disk you will be able to
subsequently import the information in the file into an Excel worksheet
or other database program that accepts comma delimited file import.
- Normally,
only information held in Required fields is exported. If you need
to export more detailed information you should contact the Chief Editor.
