Language
oneFish has an English interface and a French interface. Members suggesting items of knowledge in English should do so via the English interface. Members suggesting items of knowledge in French should do so via the French interface. When accessing oneFish via the French interface any knowledge entered in French will be displayed in French, where there is no French version of an item of knowledge, the English will be displayed, and vice versa. Members submitting items of knowledge in any other language are recommended to use the English interface.
The ability to confidently
accept an item of knowledge for inclusion in their topic will be very much dependent
on the language capabilities of the relevant topic editor, or on those
of the oneFish editorial staff. To ensure that a relevant item is not
rejected on grounds of language, the user is advised to provide reference
information (metadata) in English and an English abstract/description. They are
also advised to use English language keywords to better facilitate the
retrieval of their knowledge object in a search.
Accessibility
Items submitted must be either available online so that they can
be linked to; in electronic form so that they can be uploaded; or fully
referenced so that the object can be located in a library, obtained
from a publisher, or directly from the originator or issuing organisation.
Uploaded
files
The format and size of an uploaded or linked file must be clearly stated
in the description, and the format should preferably be of
a type that is generally available worldwide. Excessively large files may not upload successfully. If you experience problems with uploading files, please contact the Chief Editor: onefish@fao.org
Copyright
and intellectual ownership
Any copyright or other type of restriction pertaining to a specific
item of knowledge should be clearly stated in the description,
or on the uploaded or linked file. Read more about Copyright.
Currency
The primary aim of oneFish is to provide its users with up to date
information on projects, project outputs and other related fisheries
and aquatic research and development information. Users are therefore
actively encouraged to disseminate new or recent research output via
oneFish. To maintain the currency and topical nature of search returns, only documents submitted with a publication or issuing date of 1995
or later will be linked to the current topics; and only projects with start dates of 1 January 1991 or later will be linked to current topics.
Archives
The importance of providing access to historic
data and information is recognised, especially data which has not previously been
widely accessible by electronic means. However, any pre-1995 documents submitted to oneFish will be stored in the oneFish Documents Archive, and any pre-1991 projects submitted to oneFish will be stored in the oneFish Projects Archive.
Archive topics are searchable as an entity or in conjunction with current
topic information and linkages.
Project
information
One of
the primary objectives of oneFish is to provide access to fisheries
and aquatic project information, both the project records, project outputs
and related information. Anyone submitting project information should
include comprehensive information about the project, especially the
project donor organisation, lead / managing organisation, and project number, along with relevant
contact information or links. It is possible to make additional links directly between the project record
and related project information held, either within oneFish or at an
external site.
Virtual
offices
When an organisation or group is granted permission to set up a
Virtual
Office topic in oneFish, it is required to provide adequate access to
information held in that Virtual Office to benefit all oneFish users,
and to only restrict access where absolutely necessary. In all other
respects the information and linkages held within a Virtual Office must
reflect the overall requirements for oneFish content as laid out in
this contents and submissions policy document.
Content
review
Periodic reviews will be carried out by the Chief Editor in conjunction with oneFish Donors to document progress in
the development of oneFish, and to ensure that the content reflects
the agreed submissions policy and the overall aims and objectives of
oneFish.
