This study provides an estimate of the value of these activities. By improving our understanding of the role of the ocean in the economy, decision-makers are placed in a stronger position to develop sound policies aimed at protecting the marine environment, supporting sustainable activities and communities, and providing leadership in ocean stewardship. Economic impact is measured using key economic indicators including gross domestic product (GDP), employment and household income. The study begins with a measure of direct impact by activity, and then estimates spinoff impacts using the Nova Scotia Input-Output model.
