| | On March 24-26, more than 600 people attended the Managing our Nation's Fisheries Conference in Washington DC, sponsored by the eight Regional Fishery Management Councils, the three interstate Marine Fishery Commissions, and NOAA Fisheries Service. Participants and attendees included members of the commercial and recreational fishing industries, managers, scientists, environmental organizations, and others. The conference format included three primary advisory panels, four workshops, a Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC), and a main conference panel. The advisory panels, workshops, and SSC met and provided their discussions and primary findings for consideration by the main conference panel. An initial summary of the findings of the panels, workshops, SSC, and the main conference panel has been posted under the Media Center, at www.nmfs.noaa.gov. These findings do not represent formal regulatory actions by any Commission or Regional Fishery Management Council, nor are these findings intended to represent formal recommendations to any governmental body. However, the conference findings may help to inform the public in the continuing national dialogue on fisheries management issues.
