FROM THE EDITOR

A warm welcome to the 271 new members who joined last month from Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hawaii, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, USA and Venezuela, and to those from international and regional organisations.

This month I would like to draw your attention to a new aquaculture topic Best Management Practices and Standards set up by Michael Tlusty, Senior Research Scientist at the New England Aquarium. He welcomes your suggestions for items to include in this topic.

The extensive number of documents listed in this months Newsletter are the result of a concerted effort by IIFET, the International Institute for Fisheries Economics & Trade, to add details of papers presented at their past Conferences. In addition to those listed below, references and abstracts for the 230 papers presented at their most recent Conference IIFET 2004, Japan, have also been uploaded along with details of how to obtain them. These contributions comprise part of an ongoing collaboration between oneFish and IIFET. As part of that collaboration, IIFET is also digitising the contents of previous Fishery Economics Newsletters (FEN) and making them available via oneFish. The first example of this is FEN46(1998).

Finally, projects: the International Foundation for Science (Sweden) has updated their fishery projects information in oneFish. The IFS Topic now lists details of 273 grants to individuals up to 2004. The AiDA Topic has also been updated and currently includes 1129 fishery projects from multiple donors.

Many thanks to all editors and members for their contributions this month.

Best wishes

Joan Baron Varley [CE]
